MEMBER INTERVIEW
Today we interview Marc!
Marc 's Interview. MUST READ!
Today we interview our very new but, as good as poke'gold treasure, Marc!
*Holds mic forward*
What's your name, Marc? As in, real life or even nickname?
My real name is Marcus. No one seems to believe me though. Anyway, you probably don’t want to hear my nicknames.
How's it rollin' ollin'?
You mean like rolling, as in rotation of a (usually) axially symmetrical object while translating on a plane? Well, considering my body resistance and friction, I probably won’t roll very well, and given that I’m not axially symmetrical, perhaps you’d be better off with a football.
But hey, I might not be the best roller, (nor the best coaster), but it’s all cool beans.
What is your first memory of Pokemon?
I would like to say I grew up with Pokemon, but I didn’t. I only have very vague memories of my encounters with pokemon, but boy, those were nice times. A school trip to an outlying island of Hong Kong probably introduced me to the concept. A couple of my friends knew about pokemon, and bought quite a few trading cards. I was intrigued by how much fun they were having, and when my parents got me a DS, I asked them to get me Pokemon Diamond & Pearl.
I thought Pokemon Diamond & Pearl was a game, but I realized it was two separate ones. My dad only allowed me to get two, so instead of going for HeartGold/SoulSilver + Diamond/Pearl, I went ahead and got both consoles.
I only ended up ever completing Diamond with my beloved Chimchar ;D. Later on, I traded both games for one of those chips where you could illegally download a load of DS games.
Now I know more about pokemon, I figured out that Infernape had Pokerus. Man, that sucked a lot, since one of the reasons I traded the game out was because I was apprehensive about the disease Infernape had got.
Anyway, pokemon has got me into PTD, and finally, here, so I’m glad about everything ;D
How did you find out about PGN and what brought you here?
GraphicForce’s Mega Shiny Mew giveaway! …only I was a year late.
I joined because the place seemed nice, and I was intrigued by the trades going on. I went on and off for a while, then when the Summer Raffle came, I stayed for longer… and longer… and longer.
Your favourite Pizza brand?
We only have Pizza Box, Pizza Hut and Paisano's Pizzeria in Hong Kong, so I’ll have to go with Pizza Hut. (There are probably a lot more so don’t take my word for it)
How can a clam cram in a clean cream can?
Buy a clam from She, who sells seashells by the seashore, and grab the can from the guy attempting to can a can with a can, that can can the can. Talk to the seal slicer who was figuring out how many seals did the seal slicer (friend) slice since the seal slicer shan't slice slippery seals. Ask him to slice open the can, stick the clam in it and there you go.
What's your favourite game console of the recent generation?
Game Boy Advance Xbox 360
How do you find the forums so far?
I came to trade in PTD. I leave with much more – friendship, loyalty and trust. Everyone’s just so supportive of each other, so intent on helping each other to achieve their aspirations.
Everyone who has helped me, be it PTD, Competitive Battling, Graphics or even just as a friend to talk to – thank you. I’d make a list, but there are just WAY too many people I have to thank, and anyway you know who you are *wink*
Favourite PGN moments?
Perhaps my favourite moments at PGN would be locking all the old topics. Reading through pages of old content, it’s both shocking and inspiring to see what this place was like two, three years ago. Mistakes people have made, heart-warming actions people have taken – you’ve all become part of PGN history and one day, maybe someone will too be envious of the bonds you have built up in PGN.
Oh and the post count is nice. (We don’t get post counts for locking topics, if anyone was wondering)
What's the one thing you really need to do right now, but are really lazy to do?
Easter Homework… and oh, sleep.
Your signature move? (I herd you is a super heroes)
Fiery Dance. Volcarona is my favourite pokemon, but fiery dance would probably be the last signature move I’d have. My signature move would probably be Close Combat or Superpower. I guess I’m rather reckless at times and attack with full force, to regret it later on (Those stat deductions :/).
But if I were a pokemon, I’d have 3000 base attack stat, so COME AT ME, stat reductions ;D
(Oh, and I’d probably have 0 defense and 2 special defense. But great power comes with great sacrifices)
Randomness? Is that your motto!? o.-
Nope. Oh, did you know that I own a 9 by 9 by 9 Rubik’s cube and can solve it?
Otherwise, Randomness is randomness itself – I did not enjoy the Sea Coral badge or whatever, so I changed it. If you have any ideas for a motto, tell me ;D
Lastly, how do you say bye?
再見 . Honestly, I rarely say that despite conversing in Chinese. I usually say “Cya” For this particular occasion: We met. Had fun. Told stories. We were one.
I left. You waited. Years pass. You waited.
White hair. Wrinkled-face Hollow eyes. Empty space
Forgotten. Betrayed. Hopeless. You stayed.
I remember. I yearn. Back again, I return.
Alright, I’m not very good at poetry. But I believe some ancient guy said that saying goodbye is the start of a new adventure. I tried to capture the thought that although we have to say goodbye at times in life, if you’ve shared a bond, you’ll find your way back together again.
Although I have to say goodbye to this awesome interview, I know I’ll be back again… Well, maybe not D:
Snowy's Special Reply
Snowy: He's not fat... that's why he can't roll...
Snobro: Snowy, concentrate! Those were some GREAT answers Marc! A really fun interview! I especially liked the little tongue-twister combat we ended up having.
Snowy: And that was a great poem too! Especially because you wrote it all by yourself.
I'd give you a goodbye gift too, but I eated it.
Snobro: Snowy... Be nice.
Snowy: Alright, here's a little souvenier for you from the PNN group, Marc:
But, seriously, it was one of the best interviews so far and we had a good time interviewing you. Have a good day!
*hands fall off from holding the mic*
Snobro: You were STILL holding it!?
Snowy: ...

Kompetitive Korner
Welcome to the Kompetitive Korner, by Ninja_Trainer where we teach you about competitive Pokemon battling! This time, we'll be covering the newest entrant to the Super Smash Bros scene, Greninja! Enjoy the article, and don't forget to vote for next week's spotlight Pokemon!
[/center][/b][/b]
Pokemon Spotlight - Greninja
Overview Greninja, the Water-type starter from Generation 6, Greninja boasts a high Speed stat and an excellent Special movepool. It can fill multiple roles, able to sweep or support with equal skill. It also looks epic. The picture? That's its IDLE pose. And that's not a scarf, that's Greninja's long tongue wrapped around its neck. Unfortunately, Greninja is hampered by average attacking stats and low bulk. It's unable to take more than a couple hits, and the abundance of priority attacks can hinder Greninja's sweeping capabilities greatly. While Greninja does have its own priority moves, they run off of its weaker Attack stat. It also suffers greatly from four-moveslot syndrome - it can never have an answer to every threat.
Abilities Torrent - The standard Water-type starter ability, Torrent boosts the power of Water-type attacks if Greninja falls below 1/3 of its maximum HP. However, it is unlikely that Greninja will get in range for this without a Focus Sash, as it is not bulky at all, and using a Focus Sash leaves it vulnerable to priority attacks. Protean - Greninja's signature ability (Kecleon gets it too, but who cares about Kecleon?). Whenever Greninja uses a move, it will change its type to the type of that move. It removes Greninja's dual typing as well. This is an excellent ability, as it gives Greninja a STAB bonus on every single move, and can make it quite difficult for an opponent to hit Greninja super effectively.
Movesets
The Ninja Master -Hydro Pump/Surf -Ice Beam -Dark Pulse -Grass Knot/ExtraSensory/U-turn Item: Life Orb Ability: Protean Modest/Timid Nature 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe This is Greninja's flagship attacking set, using its excellent Speed and decent Special Attack to their maximum potential. While Greninja is not necessarily limited to its natural STABs due to Protean, Hydro Pump is still a powerful attack resisted by few foes. If the 80% accuracy isn't appealing, Surf is a good alternative. Ice Beam helps to take down the Dragon- and Grass-types that resist Hydro Pump, and Dark Pulse nails Psychic- and Ghost-types that might come in and attempt to fight back with coverage moves. It also grants a useful immunity to Psychic-type attacks from the likes of Alakazam. The last moveslot depends on relevant threats. If Water-types are a problem, then Grass Knot can fight off the heavier ones. Given that Ice Beam and Dark Pulse both leave Greninja vulnerable to Fighting-type moves, Extrasensory is another option. Lastly, U-turn can allow Greninja to escape dangerous trapping situations, such as a Wobbuffet, and can scout enemy switches. The Nature is your choice. Modest nature gives Greninja more power, but Timid allows it to outspeed threats such as Alakazam and Gengar before they can set up a Substitute.
Other Options: A Hidden Power of your choice can provide additional coverage. Hidden Power Ground is notable for its ability to take down Electric-types while simultaneously rendering you immune to them. One could also run Shadow Sneak or Water Shuriken if Focus Sash users are a nuisance. If you don't like the Life Orb's recoil, you could also use the Wise Glasses or Expert Belt for a smaller boost.
Caltrops -Spikes -Scald -Dark Pulse -U-Turn Item: Focus Sash Ability: Protean Bold Nature 68 HP/200 SpA/240 Spe This set is more focused on support than offense, though it can still hold its own. It functions best as a lead. A Focus Sash ensures that Greninja can set up at least one layer of Spikes Toxic Spikes, provided that it can come in with the Sash unbroken, and you can often get a second if you can force your opponent to switch or are willing to sacrifice the ninja. Scald's 30% burn chance is much preferred here for its support capabilities. 240 Speed and a Bold nature ensure that Greninja can always outspeed neutral-natured base 120s, and Dark Pulse provides some much-needed coverage. U-turn allows Greninja to escape situations that would otherwise trap it and take it down, such as Wobbuffet or Gothitelle. Spikes is preferred to Toxic Spikes, as it gives Greninja some much-needed immunity to Ground-type attacks, and with Dark Pulse it also can gain immunity to Psychic-type attacks as well.
Other Options: Greninja has access to Toxic Spikes if you prefer it over Spikes, and it can also use Rain Dance to speed up your Swift Swim users. However, you cannot use a Damp Rock with the Focus Sash, forcing you to either forego using Spikes or have a shorter Rain Dance.
Teammates Because Greninja often relies on a Focus Sash for supporting roles, teammates that can get hazards off of the field are optimal. Excadrill can take the Electric-type attacks that Greninja can attract and spin away hazards, while Greninja shrugs off the Fire- and Water-type attacks aimed at the mole. Starmie, while sharing Greninja's initial Water-type, can take a Fighting-type attack and spin, and is also excellent at taking down spinblockers. Spinblockers are very useful to Greninja as well, helping to keep its hazards on the field. Golurk is a good partner here, as it absorbs Electric-type attacks and blocks spinners, while Greninja can hold out against Water-type moves aimed at the robot. Other good teammates can take advantage of the holes that Greninja makes in the enemy team. Scizor in particular can easily take down weakened opponents, holds out well against Grass-type attacks, and can take a Fighting-type hit as well, while Greninja doesn't fear Fire-type moves and can chain U-turn with the armored bug. Grass-types such as Breloom also synergize well with the ninja frog, able to take down Water-types that could trouble Greninja and appreciating the removal of Fire-types that Greninja provides.
A big credit to Ninja_Trainer for the above article! Please also vote in the poll (above this main thread) for what his next article should be about. Thank you!
Super Smash Bros 4 News:(BY AURA)
Super Smash Bros 4 is becoming larger and larger by the minute, but when will the games come out? According to the director, we should have the 3DS version by summer and the Wii U in Winter.
For our first update, lets talk about characters!
MUST READ
New!
The pokemon roster is a big hit on the smash news now that 6th gen has been released. Lucario has been confirmed to have his Mega form in this update as a Final Smash as opposed to Aura Storm from the previous installment. However, he isn't the only mega to be around...
That's right! Charizard has now evolved from a trophy, to a special character, and now a stand alone in SSB4! Now featuring his own Final Smash, Mega Charizard X! ..... Oh you were focused on someone else? That's right! Greninja has now risen above the ranks of a powerful OU starter, into a Smash Bros Character! In analysis of the trailer, Greninja sports his signature Water Shuriken and many other ninja-themed moves, such as substitute, counter, and night slash as a Final Smash. Greninja also has water blades as normal jabs and smash attacks. Charizard also themes some of his old moves and appears to have a Flame Charge attack that appears near the end. Maybe that will be his down smash replacement now that his buddies, ivysaur and squirtle are gone?
Returning Characters
Before we touch this topic, there is one change that has been made for certain characters. In Brawl, special characters such as Pokemon Trainer and Zelda could shift into different forms with changed play styles. Unfortunately, that is not going to be implemented in this game due to the problems faced with putting this on the 3DS. After all, we want the characters to be the same on both systems. It wouldn't be fair if form changes were on seperate systems. Anyway... As stated earlier, Zelda is back with out a Sheik transformation! Zelda is no different from brawl, with the same look, same moveset, and overall control. But what will happen to her down special? As seen in the screenshot, Zelda can now summon a Phantom to counter attacks and deal some decent damage without getting too close. The move can be charged to launch greater distances, blocking moves for the princess during the battle.
You thought, Zelda would be alone without her counterpart? um nope. Sheik will also be in the game sporting a similar playstyle from Brawl! Two differences will be made for Sheik due to two programming details. 1. Her side special will be the Burst Grenade, a chain like attack with an explosive in the middle. This new move comes from the problem that the 3DS doesn't support Wii mote like features. In the previous game, the attack was a simple chain that could be moved by moving the Wii mote. It's no longer movable, but still very useful. 2. The down special of Sheik will be the Bouncing Fish! Without a down special from her transformation removal, Sheik will now use a acrobatic kick similar to the Hooligan Kick from Diddy Kong's moveset.
Yoshi returns as a veteran fighter! Yoshi has some small returning moves from Melee, such has his forward and up tilts. Yoshi will also be able to stand straight like Bowser, and has recieved some buffs to his moves. A very notable buff is the ability to recover with his tongue! Yoshi has been infamously known for terrible recovery without a up special to give much weight. Hopefully these changes will make Yoshi higher in rank in the future!
What a surprise! Zero Suit Samus... wait, she looks different. Like stated earlier, forms have been removed from the games, so now Zero Suit Samus is her own character, sporting many new changes that distinguish her from the new game. The Zero Suit has been changed like the Power Suit into a more detailed look of the original design. In Brawl, she was a swift and acrobatic fighter with only decent damage output. This time around, she will have both speed and power, equipped with upgraded jet boots, power whip, and stun gun.
Stage and Version differences While the character roster is the same, the two versions will sport exclusive stages that appear on the game system's respective titles. the 3DS version will feature: Lumiose City and Prism Tower, Jungle Japes, Reset Bomb Forest, Spirit Train, 3DS land, Dark Lord's roof, Arena Ferox, Gerudo Valley, Rainbow Road, Balloon Fight, and Tortimer's Island. The Wii U version will have: Pyrosphere, Animal crossing town, Boxing Ring, Super Mario Galaxy, Skyloft, Windy Hill, Wii Fit Studio, Halberd, and Palutena's Temple. The two versions will share similar stages, however, the backgrounds and design of the stage have some differences. Battlefield from all the Smash installments have drastic differences on versions.
The two versions have a certain factor in them that tell the systems apart. Most of the stages in the Wii U version are rather simple and long with a few platforms. The 3DS, being a system full of platformers, has many platforming stages installed and the stages are more complex in battleground design. A new feature in some stages are bosses. These enemies are big annoyances to the stage and must be defeated with some temporary teamwork from your opponents. The known bosses are The Yellow Devil in the Castle Wily Stage, Ridley in Pyrosphere, and Dark Lord in Dark Lord's Roof.
Overall, Sakurai has noticed that most players love the Final Destination format due to no disturbances around. Many stages in the game are now put into this format, with a flat stage with a few platforms and disturbances. The 3DS as explained earlier will have some as well along with some heavily platformed stages such as 3D land.
Another feature that has been told to specifically be on the 3DS system is a time attack beat em up minigame known as the Smash Run. The Smash Run is a similar concept to the Subspace Emissary. Each character will have their own special features and perks shown on the picture. The mode is focused on getting to the goal by defeating enemies and platforming, with occasional level ups to help in your progress. The Wii U as of now is not confirmed to have any special modes, but it would be underwhelming if this were the case. There may be a special mode that this system will support in the future...
Sakurai hints of a possible link between the two systems. We are still unknown from this information as of now.
Online Mode
Brawl's online mode has been a criticized feature for being full of trolls and lag. (actually....) Sakurai has announced to make the online mode special and balanced. The online mode will be split into two parts: For Fun and For Glory. (that's really their names) For Fun will have the following: - Random Stage select - All Items turned on - Smash Battles only (no special brawls) - Only wins recorded upon every match
For Glory will have: - Only Final Destination featured - possible 1 on 1 matches - no items on - Wins and losses recorded upon each match.
This will not be applied to playing with friends, which is streetpass and extra controllers. The normal Brawl/Melee mode will be the same as previous installments.
In issue of trolls... Anonymous matches are no more. You can now report bad players under strict conditions through their Nintendo ID. These rules are stated to be: - AFK players - Gangbangers (3 players ganging up on one player) - Self Destructers - Quitters (leaving between matches frequently) - Cheaters and Hackers Reports will make temporary bans on the player. If the player returns and continues to torment online players, ban history will make future bans longer and longer. Baseless Reporting will also lead to temporary bans.
A very important change in the online mode is Global Smash Power, a new ranking system that focuses on the scores made from single player modes to show the power of your opponent. The number will show how many people you outscore rather than simply showing you the score. The normal ranking system for online will also be recorded but will not be the main feature when browsing players to fight.
Customization
Oh boy... where to begin. A very requested feature of the game has been announced for SSB4! Like the stickers in the Subspace Emissary, you can make your characters stronger and more unpredictable with their moves. Unlike Brawl, these custom movesets are features that can be used in battles against friends and Brawl/Melee exclusive feature! Custom moves will make special moves of certain characters FAR stronger than normal. For example, Mario uses a weak fireball that can bounce on the ground as a projectile. With custom moves, you can change the niche of the attack to something else. You can make the attack a weak rapid fire attack or a large flame that moves slow dealing good damage. Kirby can also use this feature to make his inhale move into the freeze attack that Ice Kirby normally uses. These sets can make the modes a whole lot more different and exciting, with many ways to fight your opponent! Of course due to the sheer oddity of this feature, the custom movesets are not used in online modes.
Final Thoughts
I think this game will be a huge success like Brawl and Melee. While I have some problems and criticisms of my own about the online mode and the characters joining, it is guaranteed to be a blast for many players who love the brawler genre. Unfortunately, the Wii U has become more unattractive to players with every update. As stated, the stages are very bland with the Final Destination formula with only the eye candy to help support it. This is not the only problem. The Wii U has no exculsive modes. Smash Run is basically a revolutionary Adventure mode from the old games with many revamps. The Wii U has nothing going for it to top that. What's even worse is that the Wii U version will be released in Winter, while the 3DS will be in Summer, when everyone is guaranteed to have a fun summer online. Sales for the Wii U are still not getting any better and with it's limited library, there is only so much to attract players to buying this Nintendo system. With all this aside, let us wait a few more months for the Nintendo characters to clash within worlds again I decided not to comment on the Final Smashes released due to them being well known as of now. Still this Final Smash will rock the world
