Since the forums of PTD section is kinda dead, i would like to discuss if you guys like PTD 1 or PTD 2 more ? Or did you enjoy PTD 2 till there came a specific update which destroyed PTD 2 for you i would like to hear all opinions Also i like PTD more because its much harder to get Shiny's spending hours to get shiny's and maybe you get stuck into a level till you found a strategy. |

PTD1. When PTD2 came out there was a lot of hype for it - I have to say I was part of the hype too, the group who was excited for the new changes - Nintendo style manipulation veered PTD off tower defense and more into Pokemon as we expect it to be. With the limited number of times you could get a mystery gift and the concept of surprise giveaway codes, this was an awesome start. The storyline was mysterious and engaging. The secret Shadow Sentret and Shadow Rattata spot was new and provided the game with a lot of potential. Then Sam started to take a lot of hiatus. PTD2 still provided the challenge, but it became annoying and monotonous to hunt for shinies in levels with only 30 pokemon. I remember that at the beginning, a Shiny Sentret could land you a shiny starter in PTD1. Then breeding came out. It provided players with a platform to gain shinies a lot more easier. Strike it rich as long as you are willing to spend time on the game. More importantly, it gave players a chance to get shadow versions of pokemon and made shadow pokemon rather rare. Gender breeding was especially annoying - and for those who wanted to catch them all, this filled in Sam's lack of updates. But after a while, players catch up. The avid breeders actually get them all and we start to get tired of Sam not updating/adding new pokemon. There was a drop in activity and the game started to die. After a bit, there was a period where prices were inflated by a lot of hacks. You'd be the first to breed something, be able to sell it for 18-20 snd coins, then after a couple of hours, the pokemon's price would go down to 8 or 9 snd. In a sense that even more people were able to become the "richer" classes of PTD2 because of the widespread hacking, and the people who didn't hack fell behind. I considered quitting PTD2 at this stage because the situation was really frustrating. That's basically the stage PTD2 was in for quite a while - widespread hacking and exploitation. However, Sam started to try to please his players too much. He added a convert shiny function, meaning that the shiny breeds that were hard to get due to gender (e.g. Shiny Riolu F, with only 17.5% chance used to be at a stable price of 15 or 16) were at most 10. For people who spent time breeding, hatching and collecting, this was maddening. Then there was a shadow chance. For the people who spent time breeding for shadows, it seemed like their efforts have been deemed worthless. Adding dogs, rendering basically all dogs worthless Now it's hard to find something that will peak 10 in snd value. For people who used to breed for certain things that could ensure 12+ snd coins, they started to question whether this was worthwhile. HoF was an interesting element, where it temporarily sparked a lt of attention but once you're done, you can only wait for next week. And it's not even worth it to shiny/shadow hunt with the low revenue. A combination of widespread hacking and Sam's new features led to inflation in a lot of PTD prices, and led me to lose interest in PTD2. I'll talk about why I like PTD1 more later. |

I'd also completely agree but cant say I care about the trading side. For me it was the tower defense part - levels and plot and everything to do with that. For me the game started to go downhill after Union Cave. Early game was pretty good with the shadows and new levels and everything Marc said. I initially thought the walking around part was going to add a more RPG style rather then being quazi-pokemon, like Sam is alluding to now in Champions TD, but that was shot down pretty quickly. Effective levels were a good way of keeping level balance while not requiring grinding. When they went, that was the first indication to me that things might get bad. Early game had imaginative levels, where towers had to defend against a variety of hoard and strong enemies. The early Past 1v1 levels were a fun fad. But after that, around the Union Cave update, the quality of the levels dropped significantly. 1v1s became boring. There was not a single candy to defend between Farfetch'd and Olivine. When you think about it, thats a big part of a TD game with no defending. And then to make things worse, Sam still does everything in his power to make it so 6 lvl2 Sentrets could get to the World Championships. I love TD games but the best are ones like Bloons TD or Kingdom Rush where the paths are imaginative and, while there are a variety of ways to win, not every strategy is the right one. For me, PTD1 is better because of 3 levels. Celadon Gym, Viridian Gym and the Elite 4. These are good TD levels. Celadon has a strange pattern you need to work out. Viridian takes strategy to decide if you want to take everyone out fast or deal with the tougher later levels. And the Elite 4 is hard, requiring all 6 pokemon to be using different techniques and switching between them. If Sam replicated these elements in all his levels, this wouldnt just be a good pokemon game but great Pokemon TD game. |

I totally prefer PTD 1 because just of how the system works, there are some hidden things within PTD 1 and harder challenges in mine opinion and its just basically (almost) gen 1 pokemon meanwhile PTD 2 almost has everything next to that i wasn't really that huge of a fan of breeding it takes a lot of time to get shiny pokemons or you have to make more then 15 accounts to get almost 100% sure to get a shiny. furthermore the elite 4 is what i really enjoyed of PTD 1 |

I prefer PTD1 over PTD2. PTD1 was simple, consise and clean. It consisted of just generation 1 pokemon and a few extras. There was not much of any overload of mystery gift pokemon. Players used the pokemon which they caught in the wild. But in PTD2........ Well everything changed. It was like an actual pokemon game. The free movement was a bit unnessary in my opinion. It could have been just like PTD1. It would have made the game develop faster. PTD2 had 2 major flaws. There was a massive influx of non-generation 2 pokemon. People pretty much never used the pokemon which were in the actual game. They just used the mystery gift pokemon which were generally stronger. The other flaw was that every generation pokemon, from gen 1 to gen 6 was available in one game. If it had consisted of just generation 1 and 2, it would have been quite good but it had pokemon from all generations forcefully introduced. This pretty much detroyed any chance of a future PTD game for even if another one was to be made, the pokemon in that game would already be possess by the players. |

PTD2 is better than PTD1. As it has evolution and Pokemon from even generation VI and at this moment it also allow us to mega evolve some Pokemons. |
