Wild Hoenn pokemon?

The recent twitter post of Sam revealed apparent Hoenn pokemon available to be caught in Route 29.
If you haven't seen the post, here it is: https://twitter.com/sam_snd_games/status/537475240050577409

Alright, I'm not even going to try to hide my disgust.
PTD2 was supposed to be a Johto equivalent of PTD1. First, Sam makes dogs about as rare as Pidgeys in PTD1. Then, he added Convert Shiny, rendering most breed only shinies worthless. I can't even get 5 snd coins for a Shiny Happiny, for god's sake. To think I was constantly getting 15+ for a new shiny breed only pokemon. Then Shadow chance came. God, this meant that most of the stuff I worked so diligently for, like Shadow Phanphy, is COMPLETELY worthless.

Don't even get me started on Trainer Pass chances and convert Shadow. It seems Sam is intent on wrecking his game forever and finding every possible way to suck cash from it before it dies.

Now seriously... Hoenn pokemon? I am speculating that ALL pokemon will be added to be catchable in the wild.
The rationale of mystery gifts was that if you stuck around, you had the chance to get something special. If I can catch a load of wurmples in the wild, why the heck would I spend time every week to get mystery gifts? And that also, COMPLETELY destroys the system. Now, wild catchable shinies/shadows have almost no value with the high appearance rates with TP. If the limited gifts and breed only are rendered with the same odds, what else can we do?

On average, it takes me 2 weeks to get a shiny/shadow in an account through breeding. On average, it takes me 2 hours to find a Shiny/Shadow in wild. On average, it takes me 57 seconds to encounter a dog. I don't have trainer pass.

There's the problem of daily coins which have become so awesomely valuable with deevolution. Is it worth it to spend 40 daily coins on incenses every cycle when you can just hunt for it in the wild? Especially with the trainer pass.

I know I'm ranting. If my speculations are correct and he's gonna add all the pokemon to be able to be caught in the wild, this is going to completely destroy the values of all pokemon.

I know you're trying to please people, but what about the richer ones? What is the use of collecting if there's nothing TO collect? In PTD1, richer players continued to get the rare shinies like eevee, tauros, kangaskhan, and the dogs. Even with hacks that generated a load of pokemon, dogs still inevitably held their value and it no longer became a problem to catch them all - but to beat them all.

Sam - what am I supposed to do now? I'm starting to lose interest if all sam does is destroy one pokemon after another.

Again, got to say I agree completely and yet doesnt annoy me as much as it does you because I'm not as invested in the trading system as you are. Only thing I'd disagree with is I like the Trainer Pass and not just because I have one. The 30 pokemon per round bugged me as it took more time to find shinies. Maybe I'd disagree with the actual shiny rate being too high now but in principle I still like it.

From a game side, it's not that it hurts the game but there is so much more that can be focused on instead to improve the game. I know a lot of my bugs were picky but come on, A TIME TRAVELING CAVE? Being stuck in Olivine? Slowpoke's well, and surfing being terribly programed in general? For me, these are the major issues Sam needs to fix. If he's working on something like a new game and he ignores it, fair enough. But something like this adds very little to PTD2, I think there are higher priorities.

Good point. The main reason this annoys me so much is not the game aspect, although I do find the storyboard of PTD1 much more intriguing than PTD2. In fact, if anyone cares to explain what the hell happened in the end please tell me - the lack of updates made me forget what I was trying to do and I don't have the patience to finish it again.

That's another point, about how hard it is to just intuitively play the game. If you don't beat something, something else doesn't appear and you spend hours walking around trying to figure out what you haven't done until you decide to consult a tutorial.

But back to the main topic, I do admit the main thing I'm water guned about is the trading aspect. The thing is no one really does PTD1 anymore and I'm trying, to no avail, to switch to PTD2 and start collecting there.

You've raised a couple of very good points. If he has so much time to code all the Hoenn + pokemon inside PTD2, why not work on the logistics? The surf glitches annoy me like crazy. I'm still waiting for his gym challenges to actually become challenging. Lt Surge was decent, but it's easily beat if Hacked version is used. I need a real challenge.

I also completely agree with both of you.
Sam is now using all of the tricks to earn money from this game.
The trainer pass,The snd coin,Convert to shiny,Convert to shadow,In game ads etc.etc.etc.
Things like this are completely negating our efforts to get a rare pokemon by sitting in front of PC for hours after hours.

To be honest, I think the SnD coin bit was decent. I mean, most online games had a way of hooking you in and making you spend money.
The Trainer Pass bit was decent. UNTIL IT BECAME A ONE TIME PAYMENT
I'm all fine if someone's gonna spend 2 bucks for the TP each month. Hell, I spent all my paypal credits for Sam's fundraiser and got the cosmoids.
But a one time payment of 2 dollars for such supreme ways of obtaining pokemon?...

Alright Sam. You can get your ads up (and make ptd lag like crazy in the process). I know you need your money.
You can sell out trainer passes, basically an upgraded SnD coins thing.

But not a ONE time payment of 2 bucks. How do you think Club Penguin got so successful?

I know I sound like a butt-hurt kid but this TP Shiny/Shadow increase chance and breeding perks is really getting on my nerves.

Sorry for veering off topic. This basically revolves around how illogical I think Sam's new updates are. I mean, if he wants to get a real game with CHampion TD and earn a bunch of cash off ads with appstore, go for it. Leave PTD the way it is, and maybe there'll still be a reason for people to stick around

Marc, Sam wants to make the game challenging for people all around the world and not only for you they don't basically got all the pokémons there are neither they will ever get them all. Lets get to the point of the Legendary Dogs.

The real pokémon game(s) is it there so hard to get dogs ? Nope so that's what Sam is trying to do now we all know hes basically ruining everything with his new updates but its a lot better for new people. for old school people like us its only ruining the game because we like the challenge.

Again though I dont think it's the concept that is the problem with any of this but just poor balance with the numbers. I'm not saying the dogs should be as rare as shinies but when you have a better chance of finding a dog then a Dunsparce, that is a problem. I certainly want people in their first play through to have found the dogs just playing normally without grinding and collecting like we do. I just think the current rate is too much.

There has to be a challenge in games too. Otherwise why play? If all you want is to get to find out what happened and get to the end of the story, watch a movie or read a book. Gaming should be a progression of skills, but instead someone who can win the first gym only needs to level up and use the exact same tactics to beat the world tournament. There has to be a balance between skilled and non-skilled players but Sam is pandering entirely to the non-skilled side. Olivine was simple if you used a paralyzing move, was it too much to ask for people to figure this out? That wasn't even the only strategy. And even if they couldn't, there was plenty of places to turn to for help, it's called Google.

The overall complaint is that Sam is making everything for the new people to make sure they can win the game without ever needing to bother him on twitter while neglecting older players like us who want a challenge. The Gym Challenges was an attempt to fix that but so far, while the ideas have sounded good, the delivery has been underwhelming as again everything is black and white. There is no secret, necessary way to obtain Fire Fang, haven't had any levels where we were the attackers and how I wish there was some level that comes close to the Viridian Island challenge of not loosing any candies. In fact that's what I think is the perfect balance this game needs. It can be won "fairly" easily by loosing half your candies but for those who put the time, effort and skill into a perfect win, they get something extra.

With the trainer pass, I think how it is now is about right but would be happy to change my mind if I saw how much money they were getting from the pass compared to coins or purchase legendaries. I think of it more like buying a game then subscribing. If the game wasn't free, yes I'd be willing to pay to play it like you'd have to 10 years ago but I don't want to keep paying every month if I could play for free. And I think the amount of people paying for the one time free will be high enough to counter the increased amount but less people they'd get from a subscription style service.

Unsharped, your analogy of dogs in real pokemon games is rather incorrect.
Firstly, you can only get one of each dog per game. Not the abundance in PTD2 - I'm getting one every 57 secs. As ThatGuyHim has said - when dogs become more common than dunsparce, there's a problem.

Ultimately, what are legendaries in normal games? They're pokemon unique to the game - overpowered additions to your team that you get for beating it. It's supposed to help you character progress.

Great, people see dogs when they play and want to train til they can catch them. I agree that this is a magnificent idea for people to continue playing. But when they see a dog every single level, I think they'll twig that dogs aren't that rare.

If dogs were something like the birds, I'd be ok with it. It'd still ruin the SnD coin system but hey - you only get one set per game.

Alright, wild appearance rate? Fine. But at least make it rarer... 1/1000

There has to be a challenge in games. Even with a team of aqua ring/surf dewgongs, I still find the Cinnabar challenge almost impossible. The challenges were something you had to think about to beat. The current gyms basically just requires a team of boosting pokemon - I beat all the gyms with a quiver dance Volcarona with flamethrower.

Yes. The secret Fire Fang thing was rather interesting. I did manage to beat it just by levelling up charmeleon but it was probably a lucky round.
The Old Rod level was hard. You really had to think and generally be lucky - took me about 5 tries after I came up with the idea of Minimize. I liked how there was more than one way - Minimize or Follow me works if you don't know ;p

Now it's just timing, timing, timing. Erika wasn't even hard for god's sake. I mean you get charmander and immediately REALIZE you do almost nil damage to the fire types, so you only have to use smokescreen. And how to beat it? Catch more Pokemon. Pretty straightforward.........

Yes, I need something challenging to do.
