So for the passed ~8 years, I've used the same display picture for just about everything I had an account on. Youtube, Twitter, Steam, MMOs, and most forums (not this one since its mainly a pokemon thing). I had it made by someone way back in the day and just never changed it. So I spent the last few days making one on my own for the first time. This is the first time I've ever done any sort of shading or vectoring, but I think it turned out well. I'd like to get your opinions on it. Would really love to keep improving my artistic skills :)

That's pretty cool!

I personally like the older one better because it sort of has a blur effect on it that makes it blend really well with the background. But change is necessary, and the new one isn't bad at all.

The old one looked like it was a screenshot of a 144p youtube video enlarged. No offense intended
I love the new one a lot, but how does it look sized down? Used google chrome:

Imo the radial gradient in the background takes up too much of the space, I personally like more complex stuff and I'd suggest perhaps using the render with color dodge, then smudging it with a grunge brush to give it some texture

Dunno if it'll work, just and idea ;P

Not too sure which render youre suggesting to color dodge since both the blood seal and the helmet are separate entities from the background. I messed around a bit with some grunge brushes to texture it up a bit, which also led me to mask the blood seal to make it look faded similar to the actual thing. Not too sure how I like the texture on the helmet but I'm really liking how texturing the seal in the back is turning out.

Ok my fault, I was referring to the helmet.

I actually do like the grungy feel on the helmet - much more than the one on the blood seal. But if they're on seperate layers you could always lower the opacity of the grunge brushes on the helmet, might look better

Thanks for the help, probably would never have thought about texturing it with grunge brushes otherwise. Did a combo of your suggestions and things I thought looked nice to complete the look and turn it into a banner :)

That actually looks really really nice. Great combination of textures and brushes - I especially love the text
I really like the pokemon idea too ;D

I can't really think of anything to improve it. The combination of colors, renders and brushes just look really pleasing
On that topic, what's the font you used? would be interesting to try a style like that

(Btw to everyone else, if you look at it zoomed out the effects are really nice)

Thanks! The font is Staubach from dafont.com and I stylized it to look like the text of the FMA Logo XP

I'm personally a really big fan of simple clean work and this looks really great. You could use a texture to make it look like it's wearing away, that could be cool

Thanks! In the finished version that I put together into a banner, I did end up texturing it and making the blood seal look like it was wearing away which I think adds a really good touch to it
I posted it a bit up further but here is it again http://i.imgur.com/F8GEbum.jpg
