So, I was browsing through video game remixes, as I often do, when I found this little gem. Someone decided to take the Tetris Theme (adapted from a Russian folksong) and transcribe it in a major key! I laughed the whole time I was watching it: https://youtu.be/-56emR2Z0D8 Also, an 8-Bit (?) remix, with the same idea, made almost exactly a year later: https://youtu.be/CZOTnQgr0RY Thoughts? >.<

I've never heard the original song nor have I heard of this game before (I know Tetris, but not the one you mean) So, I have no idea what this music or video is about. But, it was nice to listen to. So, nice share, Socrates! ![]() Thanks.. |

Now I know a bit of music theory, so I get how minor -> major makes it seem so much more upbeat and happy, but I don't understand transcribing all too well. Can you transcribe into any sort of key or scale? So can you make the song in pentatonic? |

I don't know all too much about music theory though.. I've played (badly) in a decent-ish Orchestra, and that's where most of music theory knowledge comes from. Now, I'm not even really sure if "transcribe is the right word, so I could be wrong before I even supply an answer, and even now I could be totally using totally incorrect vocabulary. Also, it's early in the morning, so sorry for any poor statements. Now, changing simply the shrpness/flatness of a note within its 8-note scale obviously has some pretty major (hehe) changes for the quality and feel of the music, even making the 8-bit sound tropical as opposed to Russian. Adding or removing notes from the "scale" would not be a simple matter for even maintaining the structure of the piece, but I don't have enough knowledge of alternative scales to know. Scales are the basic building blocks of music, so changing not just the notes themselves within a scale, but the very composition of the scale itself should change alot within the piece. But I don't know enough about music theory to confidently state. TL;DR I don't know. |

I loved that remix Socrates. Theres a guy on youtube who does Major to Minor remixes of songs that makes them a lot sader and darker. I have 0 knowledge of musical theory so cant comment on whether he actually changes it or just does a slower, angstier remix. But most of the time it sounds, well, creepy. But still amazingly done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQrN9ba8qEM |
