SnD's resident GpxPlus Master <self-appointed>
Charizard - Charmander may seem like a bad choice given the first gym but once it learns metal Claw you'll be fine, very useful late game

Nidoking - Nidoran may be a little hard to train because of a limited move pool but Nidoking will be a beast once you get him and gain access to some of the better TM's he can learn. Try to evolve Nidorino before level 23 to get Thrash.

Gyarados - use the Magikarp that you get for 500 dollars to get a great water type very early.

Primeape - Can take a while to get Mankey to the level to evolve but well worth the effort. If you teach it Rock Slide via move tutor it can be very helpful against lances Dragonite, at least in my experience.

Victreebell - Catch an Bellsprout above Cerulean and once it's a Weepinbell it can really help w/ Misty and even Lt. Surge. Most people don't like Grass types but used right they can destroy.

Alakazam/Gengar or Kadabra/Haunter - 2 of the best Pokemon in LG, if you can get either one it will make a great addition.

Haven't played LG in a while but that's one of the best in-game teams you can have.
