Hello to everyone, since PTD 2 is finally getting really interesting with quite a few challenging opponents and gym leaders, I've decided to create a topic dedicated to the strategies for beating them. From now on I will post here my strategies for defeating the opponents and gym leaders that will show up in the game, however I would like If other people could post their winning strategies too in order to create a useful collection of them. So without further ado let's start: FALKNER ( present ) : in order to defeat this gym leader you need 2 Graveler/Golem. Use 1 Graveler/Golem with stealth rock attack against the stronger Pidgeot and the other Graveler/Golem with the same attack against the weaker Pidgeot; after you've used this attack, call back both of the pokemon and wait for the Pidgeot to faint ( you may want to click the speed up button in order not to lose a lot of time, but that's up to you). Once they’ve fainted, use the 2 Graveler/Golem with smack down attack to defeat all the remaining Pidgey. FALKNER ( past): in order to defeat Falkner in the past you need just 1 Graveler/Golem. Use this Graveler/Golem with stealth rock attack against both of Falkner's pokemon and then, after calling It back, wait for the pokemon to faint. LUGIA: in order to defeat Lugia place around It the following pokemon = 1 Gengar ( with shadow ball ), 2 Graveler/Golem ( use first stealth rock and then smack down), 1 Typhlosion ( with flamethrower), 1 Butterfree ( with sleep powder ) and 1 Raticate ( with crunch). Make sure to avoid Lugia's whirlwind attack ( in order to avoid It move the pokemon to which the attack is directed on another spot) and you'll easily defeat It. SHADOW ENTEI: in the shadow Entei fight there are two main areas, one around the Entei where pokemon are not attacked and one below the Entei ( the Unown path) where pokemon are attacked. Place around the shadow Entei the following pokemons= 1 Buterfree ( with sleep powder), 1 Ampharos ( with thunder punch) and 1 Onix ( use first stealth rock and then smack down). Place in the Unown path the following pokemon= 2 Graveler/Golem ( use first stealth rock and then smack down) and 1 Typhlosion ( with flamethrower). The only pokemon who will sustain damage are Graveler/Golem and Thyphlosion, but don't worry as they are resistant to fire. SHADOW MEWTHREE: in order to defeat the shadow Mewthree place around It the following pokemon= 2 Gengar ( with shadow ball), 1 Butterfree ( with bug buzz) and 1 Ampharos ( with thunder punch). Every time the shadow Mewthree makes your pokemon go back into their pokeballs, just place them around It again as fast as possible and you'll easily beat It. MINOR TRAINERS IN THE PAST ( ALL OF THEM): in order to beat the minor trainers in the past you need 1 Graveler/Golem. Use this Graveler/Golem with stealth rock attack against their pokemon; after you've used this attack, call back your pokemon and wait for the opponent's pokemon to faint ( do this thing every time). Of course there are trainers with quite resistant pokemon ( like Steelix), but don't worry, in these cases all you have to do is using stealth rock more than once ( remember to call back the Graveler/Golem every time you use It); in order not to lose a lot of time I advice you to click the speed up button ( however that's up to you). BUGSY: in order to defeat this gym leader you need 1 Furret, 2 Steelix, 2 Graveler/Golem, 1 Typhlosion. During this gym battle the first pokemon you’ll have the “pleasure” to meet in the left side of the battlefield is Metapod; in order to defeat It use 1 Graveler/ Golem ( use stealth rock first and then smack down), 1 Furret ( use helping hand first and then hyper voice), 2 Steelix with smack down, 1 Graveler/Golem with smack down and 1 Typhlosion with flamethrower. After you’ve defeated the Metapod, move all the pokemon of your team on the right side of the battlefield: place the Graveler/Golem who hasn't used stealth rock in the lower part of It, place the other pokemon of your team in the upper part of It. The next pokemon you’ll come across to is a giant Ariados together with several Spinarak waves; before they appear, leave the pokemon of your team with the same attacks used against Metapod a part from the Graveler/Golem in lower part of the battlefield ( use stealth rock first and then smack down). The stealth rock attacks will get rid of the annoying waves of Spinarak ( thanks to the helping hand attack, therefore don't forget to use It) while the pokemon of your team defeat the giant Ariados ( move them around following the Ariados in order to get rid of It as soon as possible). If you manage to use the helping hand attack a second time, you'll be able to kill the giant Ariados even faster. Anyway during your fight against the Ariados ( or a while after, If you’re fast in defeating It) a really fast Scyther will appear; at this point the only thing you have to do is waiting for the pokemon of your team to defeat It. FARFETCH'D: to defeat this pokemon you need 2 Golem/Graveler, 1 Ampharos, 2 Steelix/ Onix and 1 Vileplume; place the two Golem/Graveler and the Ampharos on the left side of the battlefield, while the two Steelix and the Vileplume on the right side of the battlefield. On the left side use both of the Golem/Graveler with smack down and the Ampharos with thunder wave first and then electro ball ( thunder wave will paralyze the Farfeth'd, while electro ball will damage It a lot). On the right side use both of the Stellix/Onix with smack down and the Vileplume with solar beam ( solar beam will help you to get rid of an annoying Psyduck, while smack down will help you to get rid of the other pokemon). If you manage to defeat quickly the Farfetch'd, the fight will end without other pokemon taking part in It. WHITNEY: in order to defeat this gym leader you need 1 Ampharos, 1 Heracross, 1 Poliwrath and 1 Furret; the only tough opponent of this gym is the Miltank, therefore you have to get rid of It as soon as possible ( the other opponents are just weak Clefairy that do a really little damage). The Miltank appears on the upper left side of the battlefield, therefore place around It the following pokemon with the following attacks: Ampharos with thunderwave first and then thunder, Heracross with brick break, Poliwrath with rain dance first ( this way Ampharos' thunder will always hit Its target) and then wake-up slap/ submission, last but not least Furret with helping hand. The only thing you have to be careful about is to avoid Miltank's Rollout ( in order to do that just move your pokemon around when you see that attack coming and then place them again around the Miltank); once you've defeated It, take care of the Clefairy and the work is done. So this is It for the moment; If you have any questions or If anything is not clear, please let me know. Edited by jacktell, Sep 21 2013, 07:58 AM.

I mean if you import guys just get some fire dudes with flame burst, you can beat busy pr easily (much less effort than getting steelix/golems. I guess if you are only using ptd2 pokes then sure. But I just imported 1 ninetales, rest magmars and flame bursted everything. A guy with shockwave (Rotom for example) helps take down the scyther. |

Bugsy is the ultimate training ground. WOW. I've raised a few of my pokemon to lv. 50+. I've also trained some of the pokemon that I hadn't trained much such as my Bastiodon and Quagsire as well as to evolve some pokemon such as Walrien, Aggron, Garchomp and Glalie. What I do is put in 4 pokemon that have a type advantage (fire, flying, rock, etc.) and 2 pokemon to train. I've used pokemon such as Charizard, Infernape, Bastiodon, Heatran, Darmanitan, Rampardos, Noctowl and others. What I am currently using is Rotom with Shockwave, Infernape with Flame Wheel, Heatran with Fire fang, Rampardos with Ancient Power, Darmanitan with Belly Drum and Flare Blitz and Togetic with Ancient Power and wish to heal Darmanitan. Simply Belly Drum, use Wish to heal Darmanitan and yu destroy Bugsy without needing to buy Potions. |

For training, I just have a ninetales (on drought) and a magmar use flame burst, and other guys surround them to get exp. I dont kill the scyther, but still get a numemon load of exp. And I recommend having a jirachi instead of a togetic. Easier to get, and can use both wish/helping hand. Helping hand SWEEPS! Edited by BobTheImam, Jul 8 2013, 01:30 AM.

Jirachi and his/her wish is useful. I have a policy that I try to avoid using potions/items in the game, and i've been having some trouble beating it lol, but i have found Jirachi's wish useful. Also, using Ampharados (with Cotton Spore) to kill scyther is a good strategy. Again I haven't beaten it yet (almost... in fact only one spinerak away -_-) My team: Ampharados Typhlosion Steelix (2) Jirachi Quagsire (for Yawn) Edit: I beat it. I've also come up with a great team to train pokemon. Ampharados (cotton spore, attack fastest) Typhlosion (flame charge) Heatran (Fire Spin), Chandelure (flame burst), Altaria/Infernape (strong attacking move) The last spot is for a pokemon i want to train, with this method i get a lvl 1 poke to level 50 in about 15 minutes. Set the speed as fastest too btw, and quit when only scyther is left (or u can beat him too if u want :P) Edited by Marc, Sep 5 2013, 08:26 AM.

Thank you guys for sharing your strategies; this is exactly what I wanted this topic to be .@BobThelmam: all the strategies I write down are based only upon pokemon that can be currently caught in the game. That's the reason way I think It's useful to have a collection of strategies from several people who use different pokemon. Edited by jacktell, Jul 8 2013, 02:43 PM.

I figured as much. In that case you pretty much have done the best you can. Its tough to beat this gym without having tms, so I feel its too much effort to get that "perfect team". |

On Shadow Entei, you can easily make Typhlosion have Flash Fire so it takes no damage from Entei's attack. |

I am having trouble with Bugsy. I grinded my two of each Typhlosion, Charizard, and Infernape to around level 50 but I can't win... Should I train my Gravelers instead? Or another Pokemon? I do not have any Pokemon in the Onix line so I can't use Steelix... btw how do you get Rock Smash or Stealth Rock? I have no idea. ![]() I always make it to the end, but Scyther always beats me...

Remember, AoE. Try getting boosters such as furrett. And for the Scyther make sure to get something that makes him hittable. |

You can easily catch Onix in the Union Cave ( when you get them, you'd better evolve them into Steelix as they have a really high defense); anyway Rock Smash and Stealth Rock are learned by both Onix and Graveler when they reach lvl 40-42. Do not forget to use a pokemon with helping hand ( like Furret), otherwise It will get really hard to beat this gym. |

I use a darmatine with belly drum, 4 physical attackers (preferably fire types like infernape or high attack pokemon) and 1 training pokemon. Just lay down all the pokemon and use belly drum with darmantine and select a physical attack with each pokemon. set their proirity to the fastest pokemon and you should be able to win easily!

I just won!! It was taking forever to train Furret so I scrapped the idea... But I remembered what was said about Pokemon with high defense and it gave me a new idea! I used a Vanillite and a Vanillish, and 2 Torkoal and 2 Graveler. I started with Acid Armor / Withdraw / Defense Curl. Then I switched Vanillite to Icy wind because it's an area attack, and Vanillish to Ice Beam since it can attack in a line. Torkoal switched to Flamethrower and Graveler switched to Rollout (which also got a buff from Defense Curl). It actually took a bunch of tries but I figured I was getting so close, since I kept getting down to just Scyther! I never thought until now to ditch Charizard in the bug gym but it worked out since the others have defense+ moves which definitely helps. Also, only Vanillite fainted in the battle, everyone else survived O__O (Vanillite didn't evolve yet because I was actually still training. And I happened to win.)I never thought defense buffing moves could be so useful but they really saved me this time. I just stuck them all in the 6 left-most spots and hoped for the best... And it turned out to work. lol--- So it just occurred to me, before I continue playing and training, here is a screenshot of my team, just after the gym battle, before gaining anymore experience or anything. ![]() --- edit I just realized in training that Torkoal gets Iron Defense! That's even better than Withdraw. lol Faster buffs. Edited by Ribon, Jul 24 2013, 03:35 AM.
